World Champion Max Verstappen continues to make his mark in Miami, tallying the fastest lap around the Miami International Autodrome during the opening-day practice run. The Red Bull driver recorded a time of 1 minute 27.930 seconds around the 19-turn venue, which was 1.54 seconds quicker than Charles Leclerc’s pole position time last year.

Miami Dolphins Join Formula 1 Drivers Ahead of the 2023 Race

It was an intersection of two worlds as Miami Dolphins players met with Formula 1 drivers at Hard Rock Stadium over race weekend. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill enjoyed the unique experience of sitting in the cockpit of Alpine‘s Pierre Gasly as the team performed pitstop practice.  

Hill wasn’t the only Dolphin who took part in the festivities, as Dolphins players such as Jaelan Phillips, Jevon Holland, Emmanuel Ogbah, and more held their own version of an NFL Combine with Formula 1 drivers, complete with competitive drills and more.

Charles Leclerc Triggers Red Flag Stoppage During Qualifiers

Qualifying for the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix 2023 came to a dramatic conclusion at the Miami International Autodrome when Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc spun off the track in the final seconds to trigger a red flag stoppage. With just over one minute left on the clock, the session was not restarted and Leclerc’s second off-track excursion of the weekend meant no driver could improve their lap times resulting in an exciting starting grid for race day.

To the delight of the Red Bull fans, Sergio Perez claimed his third pole position in Formula 1 and earned the top spot on the starting grid ahead of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix.  

Perez, who set a lap two seconds quicker than last year’s P1 time shared, “It has been one of those weekends where I was struggling for balance and confidence…With a small change in qualifying everything came alive and we put the lap together when it mattered.”

The victory marked Verstappen’s second win in Miami, with the driver celebrating back-to-back titles and another first-place finish on top of the podium at the Miami International Autodrome.

The event marked the second-annual Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix at the Miami International Autodrome, with Tom Garfinkel, Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium and Managing Partner of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix stating, “It has been a fantastic weekend, an incredible race day and I’m proud of the entire team who have worked so hard to put together this year’s event…We can’t wait to welcome everyone back next year and celebrate another weekend of great racing together.”
