Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have set their sights on Formula 1, recently purchasing stake in the Alpine F1 team owned by the Renault Group.
Renault Group, a French automotive company, and Alpine’s parent company reported Reynolds and McElhenney’s investment group, Maximum Effort Investments, acquired a 24% stake in the Formula 1 team. The recent $218 million investment has now valued the brand at a reported $982.57 million dollars.
Alpine, which features drivers Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon, finished fourth in last year’s Formula 1 championship. This year, the team currently sits fifth across eight races during the 2023 F1 season.
In 2020, Maximum Effort Investments invested in Wrexham A.F.C. and funded the Welsh club’s return to the English Football League as fifth-tier champions in April. The club gained immediate attention due to its A-list owners and show ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ on Hulu.
Reynolds and McElhenney’s investment into Alpine demonstrates increasing interest and popularity in Formula 1, showcasing the growth of the sport both in domestically and internationally.
