Red Bull’s Max Verstappen continued his reign of dominance after earning his fifth consecutive win and seventh of the 2023 Formula 1 season. After claiming the top spot during qualifiers in Austria on Friday, Verstappen maintained the momentum with a win in the Sprint Race on Saturday before claiming victory in Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix.
Verstappen lost the lead early following an opening pitstop, which didn’t last long as he roared back to pass Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to register the fastest lap of the race. Verstappen has claimed the fastest lap in six of the nine races this season.
Leclerc finished the race in second place, just 5.155 seconds behind Verstappen, for his first pole position finish of the season. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez rounded out the top three after an impressive recovery from fifteenth to third. Perez still trails 81 points behind teammate Verstappen for the 2023 F1 Championship.
A string of penalties were delegated to numerous drivers following the conclusion of the race at the Red Bull Ring.
Through nine races of the 2023 Formula 1 season, Red Bull remains undefeated, claiming victory in all races so far this season. The next stop on the 2023 F1 season schedule is the British Grand Prix’s Silverstone circuit from July 7-9. Stay up to speed and explore the season schedule.
