Ready, Set, Ricciardo!
Daniel Ricciardo is set to make his F1 season debut in Budapest after replacing Nyck de Vries as this season’s AlphaTauri driver for the remainder of the 2023 campaign.
Ricciardo, who took a step away from racing this year, will return to the grid as the second driver for AlphaTauri alongside teammate Yuki Tsunoda. The change followed Ricciardo’s recent tyre test in Silverstone, where his impressive pace and strong performance catapulted the promotion.
Ricciardo’s return to the junior team comes 10 races into de Vries’ rookie season.
Ricciardo previously raced for AlphaTauri, formally known as Toro Rosso, in 2012 and 2013. After many impressive performances he was promoted to Red Bull in 2014 and had a breakout season that included three first-place finishes. In 2019, Ricciardo joined Renault for two seasons followed by a two-season stint with McLaren in 2021. The eight-time Formula 1 race winner was released by the team at the end of the 2022 campaign.
Ricciardo will take the track for AlphaTauri at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest on July 21-23, the same venue in which he secured a Formula 1 victory in 2014.
