F1 World Champions McLaren have begun their bid to retain their place at the top of the sport with two wins from the first two races of the new Formula 1 campaign. Lando Norris claimed victory in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, while his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri triumphed in the Chinese Grand Prix. That race marked an important milestone for the team, as they recorded their 50th 1-2 finish in Formula 1 history — dating back to McLaren’s first race in 1966.

Last season, McLaren secured their first FIA Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship in 26 years. In 2025, they are aiming to defend that title while also fighting for P1 in the Drivers’ Championship. To do so, they must stop Red Bull’s Max Verstappen from securing a fifth consecutive Drivers’ crown.

Verstappen has fared better than his Red Bull team-mate Liam Lawson, who, after just two races, has been moved to the Racing Bulls team. In a surprise early-season switch, Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda has taken Lawson’s place alongside Verstappen.

While McLaren have started the year strongly, Lewis Hamilton has also made an early impact with Ferrari. In just his second race for the Scuderia, the seven-time world champion led every lap of the Sprint race in Shanghai, securing his first victory with his new team.

As the season continues — and with Miami hosting round six of the championship on the first weekend of May — who can challenge McLaren at the venue where Lando Norris took his maiden F1 win last year?
