Max Verstappen made his mark in Silverstone, extending his win streak to six straight victories and marking his eighth first-place finish over the course of the 2023 F1 season.
The 2023 British Grand Prix was action-packed, as the Dutchman claimed the top spot at Silverstone for the first time in his Formula 1 career. The victory also marked the first time Red Bull took the title in Silverstone since 2012.
In the process of another first-place finish, Verstappen stretched his lead to 99 points ahead of Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. Red Bull has recorded 11 consecutive victories, including the final race of 2022 campaign, tying McLaren’s record of 11 consecutive wins (1988).
McLaren’s Lando Norris produced his best-ever result in front of a home crowd in Silverstone after coming in second place, just 3.798 seconds behind Verstappen. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton rounded out the podium by coming in third. Hamilton secured his 14th podium finish at the British Grand Prix, marking the most by any driver at any track in F1 history. This year’s race also marked the first time two British drivers placed on the podium since 1999.
Norris’ teammate and McLaren rookie Oscar Piastri finished fourth, marking his best result of the 2023 campaign. George Russell of Mercedes came in fifth, with all three British drivers (Norris, Hamilton, Russell) finishing in the Top 5.
