The rain was no match for 2023 Formula 1 leader Max Verstappen who secured his third F1 Dutch Grand Prix victory and all-time record of nine victories in a row over the weekend.
The Red Bull driver has now extended his F1 championship lead to 138 points and is rapidly is racing towards his third consecutive world title. Verstappen’s home crowd victory at the Zandvoort track marks his 11th win of the season.
“I already had goose bumps when they were playing the national anthem before the start,” the Dutch native shared.
Verstappen was joined on the podium by fellow Dutch Grand Prix winners Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, who finished fourth but moved up to third place because Sergio Perez was given a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
Along with the complicated weather conditions, Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu crashed, prompting a late red flag and 40-minute delay.
