The long-awaited Brad Pitt Formula 1 movie is set to hit theaters later this month, but the F1 drivers and their team principals have already had an exclusive sneak peek. At the Monaco Grand Prix, a special red-carpet screening was held for drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, to enjoy. The drivers are already quite familiar with the fictional team — and its actors — as the cast and crew have been filming scenes in and around actual Grand Prix races. Many of the drivers even make cameo appearances on the big screen.
Brad Pitt stars as veteran racer Sonny Hayes, who gets a second chance at an F1 seat from his old friend, APXGP team owner Ruben Cervantes (played by Javier Bardem). Cervantes has a rising star on his hands — Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) — but knows the young talent needs the guidance of a seasoned pro. Produced by Apple and directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), the summer blockbuster was well received by the drivers who saw it.
“I think for Formula 1, for the sport, it’s an amazing opportunity to dive into our world,” said Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly. “And personally, I’m a big fan of Brad Pitt — he makes us all look very good as Formula 1 drivers. The production did a fantastic job. I don’t want to give too much away, but I definitely hope that people from the outside are going to enjoy it.”
