In a major statement of intent, Aston Martin have secured the services Adrian Newey, who is leaving Red Bull to join the British-based team as Managing Technical Partner at Aston Martin.

The renowned designer, widely regarded as the most successful technical figure in Formula 1 history, Newey has won 25 world titles in his career and is joining Aston Martin in 2025 – ahead of a reset of the technical regulations for 2026.

The team, which is owned by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, has undergone a transformation in recent years with a new AMR Technology Campus, a state-of-the-art wind tunnel and a works engine partnership with Honda from 2026. Aston Martin have two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso under contract until the end of 2026 and he’s partnered by Stroll’s son Lance.

“It’s an incredible day for the team,” said Alonso. “Lawrence’s vision is taking shape with this building, Honda, Adrian — this is definitely the team of the future and for me it is going to be an incredible opportunity professionally to work with Adrian.”

Newey rejected bids from other teams, most notably Ferrari, partly due to a potential deal that will see the legendary designer become a shareholder in the team.

“Lawrence’s commitment is demonstrated in the development of the new AMR Technology Campus and wind tunnel at Silverstone, which are not only state-of-the-art but have a layout that creates a great environment to work in,” said Newey. “They have all the key pieces of infrastructure needed to make Aston Martin a world championship-winning team and I am very much looking forward to helping reach that goal.”

Newey was unveiled to the world at the team’s factory in early September.
